As half of the world creeps towards winter we take a look at how the other half can jump to our rescue with some inspirational escapes. Introducing Pala’s edit of idyllic places to swim – from serene natural pools to intimate camping set ups, perfect to lie back and unwind.
– Nepal – Pokhara Lodge
Situated on a mountain ridge above the Pokhara Valley, the Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge is surrounded by lush vegetation and epic views of the Himalayas. Not only does this secluded, relaxing pool feature 1,000ft above the local town, the lodge also prides itself on responsible tourism. Aiming to preserve local wildlife, and support nearby schools, it’s no wonder that the team keep on winning awards! We can think of no better place to soothe and stretch post mountain trek, plus for lazy days, lull in the sun and enjoy the epic surroundings.
– Australia – Icebergs Bondi Beach
Not an unknown discovery, yet a must, must-visit. The Icebergs swimming pool in Sydney sits just next to the sea and provides a calm contrast to the waves. Allowing you to dip in and practice your lengths, then simply soak in the sun post swim as you lie on the cliffs to dry. Built over 100 years ago, this iconic outdoor design is worth the flight alone.
-New Zealand – Rotorua natural pools
For swimming with medicinal benefits, head to the Rotorua region of New Zealand. Natural thermal water springs and hot pools provide a host of healing properties that have been known since the 19th century. Navigate through the clear steamy surroundings, feel at ease and take in the other-worldly views.
– Morocco – Riad Mena
Relatively close to Europe yet still pleasantly warm throughout October, treat yourself to a stay in a classic Riad. We recommend Riad Mena, a contemporary Moroccan space in the heart of Marrakesh. Quick tip: opt for the Writer’s Den room – a cozy corner overlooking the heated swimming pool. Plus, if the city gets too much, escape to their two-acre perma farm, for views of the Atlas Mountains and a two metre natural pool. Blissful.
– Sandat camping
Opt for luxury meets camping with Sandat just outside of Ubud, Bali. Surrounded by peaceful paddy fields, these tented lodges and eco-cabins are available to stay in for a truly unique experience. With your own pale-green pool shaded by palm trees and tropical fauna, simply float and unwind Balinese style, without any interruptions (except for the wildlife).
– Guatemala – Semuc Champey
Semuc Champey (which translates to where the river hides under the stones) is a natural wonder in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. These stepped, turquoise pools, are ideal for wild swimming and natural formations from limestone in the Cahabón River. Out of the typical backpackers trail, a short trek will lead you to this wondrous swim spot. Ideal.
Oh, and just one thing…. if you are going to be heading off to one of these glorious destinations then we’ve a few pairs of sunglasses you might want to think about taking!

Felicia is our ‘camera ninja’ when it comes to photography for the Pala website. Hailing from Sweden, but now based close to the Pala Brighton HQ. When she’s not exercising her skills of mind control to make models relax on shoots you’ll find her in a cafe enjoying a good cup of coffee, or at home baking cinnamon buns.
Emma is our marketing guru. When Emma isn’t planning, strategizing and creating content, she can be found travelling the world exploring its wonders, or in more recent times – headphones on with a paintbrush in her hand creating an abstract masterpiece!
Mary is the team leader of the Care4basket project in Bolgatanga, Ghana. When Mary is not organising and supporting the work across the communities, you will find her sowing sweet potatoes, ground nut, millet and looking after the animals on the farm.
Izzy is our Sales and Comms mastermind. When Izzy isn’t throwing herself down a mountain on a snowboard, she can normally be found rummaging through vintage shops or pounding the fields with her beloved puppy, Mac. She once mislaid a finger on a night out (eek!) – girl knows how to party!
Justin is our ‘Film Alchemist’. When he’s not laying on the floor looking for the next shot he’s either exploring the finest bourbons and listening to obscure country music tracks from the 50s and 60s. Normally found planning his next trip abroad or fuelling the pineapple on pizza debate. Just so you know he’s firmly in the Hawaiian camp!
